That's what I wondered -- don't things eventually die? Or does it just keep self-replenishing? I mean the shrimpies are going to die anyway, right? But what happens after 5 years, is it just a few dead twigs? Doesn't the water dry up as well?
The water cycles, but the shrimp are actually starving to death, but hawaiian red shrimp adapt to extreme conditions, so they just shrink more and more until they eat themselves out of existence. The twigs are actually alive I think.
I think the twigs are kind of cool-looking alone anyway.
I've had one of these for 6 years! It's so cool! I have the small spherical one and it came with 3 shrimp initially, but 2 died off within the first 6 months. The last one is still alive and kicking though.
 My girlfriend wants this thing I think were gonna buy it. Too bad you can't get one with like flesh eating mini pirahnas!

I like the idea of it. But if the shrimp and fish are suffering, I think I can live without it.
